New › Build table takes one wave, the seed, and changes it step by step along each axis of a new table. A row sweeps one attribute; a grid sweeps one across and another down; a volume sweeps a third through the layers. You hear the result before you create it.
Presets
The chips along the top set everything up for a familiar kind of table:
| Preset | What it makes |
|---|---|
| Classic morph | Sine → triangle → saw → square → pulse, spectrally morphed, with the five shapes as keyframes. Set the frame count only. |
| Filter sweep | A saw through a low-pass to a high-pass |
| PWM | A square whose pulse width changes |
| Sync sweep | A saw with hard sync rising |
| Wavefold | A sine folding harder and harder |
| Formant | A saw with its spectrum squeezed and stretched |
| Waveform grid | The basic waveforms across, folded down |
| Tone grid | A saw, darker to brighter across and skewed down |
| Fold × drive | A sine, folded across and driven down |
| Band-pass sweep | A saw through a narrowing band-pass |
| Into noise | A saw blending into noise |
| Tone cube (Pro) | An 8 × 8 × 4 volume: brightness, skew and band-pass |
Changing any setting by hand clears the preset highlight.
Settings
- Seed: the wave to build from. Selected frame uses the frame you have selected; or choose Sine, Triangle, Saw, Square, Pulse or Noise.
- Build for: Any synth or device, or a device that reads a fixed shape: the E352 / E370 (WaveEdit) (8 × 8), the Piston Honda Mk III (8 × 8 × 8) or the 4ms SWN (3 × 3 × 3). Choosing a device sets and locks the layout and size to match, and the table is made at the device’s frame size. The two volume devices are part of Pro.
- Layout: 1D (a row), 2D (a grid) or 3D (a volume, Pro).
- Frames or Size: a row of 2 to 256 frames; a grid up to 32 × 32; a volume up to 16 × 16 × 16. A table can hold up to 1024 frames.
- Seed sits at: Center puts the unchanged seed in the middle and sweeps both ways, so you hear each attribute’s negative side on one half and its positive side on the other. Start puts the seed first and sweeps one way.
- Axes: for each axis (Sweep for a row, Across (X), Down (Y) and Through layers (Z)), choose an attribute and drag its amount. A negative amount turns the attribute around.
- Noise seed (when an axis uses Noise): the same number always gives the same noise. The dice picks a new one.
- Normalize each frame: on by default.
Attributes
Each attribute has two sides. The slider’s readout names the side you’re on.
| Attribute | Negative side | Positive side |
|---|---|---|
| Basic waveforms | pulse toward sine | sine toward pulse. Runs through sine, triangle, saw, square and pulse in place of the seed. Only one axis can use it. |
| Brightness | darker | brighter |
| Filter (LP ↔ HP) | a low-pass closing | a high-pass opening |
| Odd / even | odd harmonics only | even harmonics only |
| Skew | phase bend, a Casio-style phase distortion | skew; on a square, this is pulse-width modulation |
| Fold | triangle fold | sine fold |
| Drive | sharpened peaks | saturation |
| Sync | sub-sync, reading only part of the cycle | hard sync, rereading the cycle up to 8 times |
| Formant | spectrum squeezed | spectrum stretched |
| Crush | decimation, down to 4 steps per cycle | bit crush, down to 2 bits |
| Noise | dark noise | white noise |
| Low-pass | resonant low-pass | low-pass |
| High-pass | resonant high-pass | high-pass |
| Band-pass | a narrowing low band | a narrowing high band |
| Dispersion | phase smear one way | phase smear the other way |
| All-pass | phase bend one way | phase bend the other way |
| Comb | notches every 3rd harmonic | notches every 6th harmonic |
Filters, brightness, odd/even, formant, dispersion, all-pass and comb can only remove or move harmonics that are already there. A sine seed has just one, so sweeping only those gives you very little. If you try, Build suggests a saw or square seed, or putting Drive, Fold, Sync or Crush on another axis to add harmonics.
Preview
The right side shows the result: a 3D view for a row, or a grid with colored axis labels for a grid or volume (volumes show one layer at a time, with tabs).
- Preview (or Space) plays the result while scanning across it. Your current table isn’t touched.
- Click a frame to hear it alone; click it again to go back to scanning.
- Drag on the grid to hold any point between frames.
Create table replaces the current table with the result. It’s undoable, and an unsaved table you were working on is kept as a draft.
