Windows warns when I run the installer
The Windows installer and plugin aren’t code-signed yet, so SmartScreen warns the first time. Choose More info, then Run anyway. Downloads from wavestack.app list a SHA-256 checksum if you’d like to check the file first.
A file won’t open
- “Download it first”: the file is in iCloud Drive or another cloud folder and isn’t on your computer yet. In the Finder, right-click it and choose Download Now.
- “Isn’t an audio format this system can decode”: WaveStack reads WAV itself, but other audio formats go through your system. Convert the file to WAV.
- An image won’t open: try PNG, JPEG or WebP.
A plain WAV opens as the Sample dialog instead of a table
The file doesn’t say what its frame size is, so WaveStack can’t tell where one frame ends. In the Sample → wavetable dialog, choose Wavetable WAV and set Frame size in file (2048 for most Serum-style tables, 256 for WaveEdit banks, 600 for some Disting tables). See Importing.
My table sounds wrong on a synth
Almost always, the synth is reading a different frame size from the one the table was made at, so every frame is cut in the wrong place. Export with that synth’s own target, which writes the frame size and frame count it expects. If you saved the file from the library instead, it may not match: saving is for WaveStack’s own format, Export is for other synths. The instrument pages have each synth’s rules, and How wavetables work explains why frame size matters.
On the Waldorf Iridium and Quantum, set the import period to 2048.
I lost unsaved changes
WaveStack keeps unsaved tables as drafts while it’s open, but doesn’t save them to disk or warn you when you quit. Save with ⌘S before quitting. See Library, files and saving.
There’s no sound
- Check that the transport is playing: press Space or the play button, or play a note on the keyboard.
- Check that the position isn’t sitting on a silent frame, and that Env 1’s sustain isn’t at 0 with a short decay.
- If the filter is on with a low cutoff, drag its handle up, or click Off.
- On the iPad, WaveStack plays through the silent switch, so check the volume instead.
My MIDI keyboard doesn’t play
In the Sound tab’s MIDI input section, make sure it isn’t set to Off, then press refresh after plugging the keyboard in. Notes on any channel play. In the plugin, MIDI comes from your DAW, so check the track’s input there.
The 3D view turns the wrong way
Turn on Invert horizontal drag or Invert vertical drag in Settings.
Plugin problems
- The DAW doesn’t find the plugin: check the files are in the right folders (see Plugin mode), then rescan. Logic and GarageBand need a restart to find a new Audio Unit.
- Space doesn’t reach the DAW: click the DAW’s own window first.
- A dropped WAV won’t load: the plugin needs a WAV that records its frame size, or one whose length is a multiple of 2048. Use the New menu’s Sample item to bring in other audio.
- The iPad plugin is silent: the AUv3 needs WaveStack Pro. Unlock or restore Pro in the WaveStack app. See WaveStack on the iPad.
